One good recycling project for kids is making a letter holder from old data CDs and foam. Old data CDs are hard to dispose sometimes, and so is packaging foam.

advance auto parts commercial A. Your appliance may only be worth a few bucks at the recycling center and as I mentioned a second ago, this is wiped out by the cost of fuel. Plus, they have overhead. To remain in business, they need to have a license, a truck, insurance, and they will need to pay a guy to pick up your appliance and bring it to the scrap yard. These guys do need to make a little bit of a profit to stay in business; after all, they are providing a service to the community.

Reliance is in a pretty favorable environment for growth right now, and I think they could definitely outperform in the short and long term. Things like better carbon steel pricing environments, strength in end markets (energy, oil & gas, aerospace), strong non-residential construction numbers and minimal discretionary exposure has Reliance Steel & Aluminum jumping beyond expectations.

These are the general tactics you want to use anywhere. Watch for businesses that are closing down or ones that are just moving into a building. Be sure to check estate and yard sales for unwanted items, and be sure to ask if there's anything they're getting rid of that isn't up front for sale. This can lead to broken items like extension cords, lawnmowers, etc... Many people don't realize these items still have value and are glad just to be rid of them. Post an ad in the local paper and on Craigslist. Like I said before, the people who know your name, the better your business will be.

Know the garbage days. A whole heck of a lot of scrap metal can be picked up alongside residential roads during garbage days. As we all know, not every neighborhood has the same garbage day. Make yourself a little map color-coded based on what day each area puts their garbage out. This should result in less gas money spent, and more scrap metal collected in less amount of time!

Before doing the things specified above, there are some tips and warnings for you to take into account. If ever you check out the trash site, try to keep an eye on some of the items that you may consider valuable for yourself. There are other people who will just throw out their items in a very imprudent manner without even realizing that the item they threw was very valuable. So at least now, there will be someone who can appreciate the value of this thing.

You start clearing a space in your garage for storage. One side of a two-car garage, or just an 8 by 12 foot space would be sufficient. If you have a garden shed that is dry, that would work well also. Some collectors even rent space in a neighborhood mini-warehouse.

Give incentives to family members who do their recycling job very well. Whether it's a weekend pizza treat or a big movie night for the whole family, they will surely appreciate that their efforts are well compensated. After they get used to the routine and they instill in themselves the huge significance of recycling, these incentives will not be necessary anymore.

Make sure you clean and rinse all plastic bags and containers before recycling to avoid any contaminants going into the recycling process. This makes it easier for the recycling plant to undergo reprocessing of the plastic material.
