The futility of evil surfaces at a early age as kids try to impress their friends by their rebelliousness. Many if not most youngsters embrace the lie that it takes courage to rebel. You're "bad" if you go against the system. But "bad" actually means "good." You're "cool" if you're "bad." So "bad" is a true adjective, even though now being "bad" is a good thing. But this is backwards. "Bad" is supposed to describe something that is wrong, negative, or in some way undesirable.

We had such dreams when we were young, those things we might accomplish in life... the star basketball player we hoped to be, the author of best-selling science fiction novels, the astronaut, the musician, the surf bum.

A rebellious kid might admire himself for spray-painting his name on a subway, but it was the work of millions of people before him that made it possible for that subway, that city and even that can of paint to exist.
Though sometimes you might workplace wellbeing programs find you do not consistently reveal what is on your mind so your identity is misrepresented. The less you say the more others will make the decision for you, defining your voice. But on the flip side, if you say too much, you become more vulnerable to criticism.
Speaking up for yourself at work not only helps your own mental and physical wellbeing; it helps that of other people too. They get a better job done and so do you.
