On the door inside the shipping container which became a death trap for the 39 Vietnamese migrants was shocking evidence of the last desperate moments of their final journey.
There, on the sealed exit separating them from the safety of the outside world, were the bloody handprints of victims who had banged frantically in vain for help as oxygen was slowly sucked from the air and they realised they were probably going to die.
They also used a pole to scrape holes in the side of the container as they desperately sought air, or escape.
Surely few details encapsulate the visceral horror of this tragedy - or the wickedness of people trafficking - more than this.
After the banging had subsided, and all hope had gone, their thoughts turned to their loved ones on another continent.
Police at the Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays after the 39 bodies of Vietnamese migrants were found inside the lorry in October 2019
Victims had banged frantically as oxygen was slowly sucked from the air and they realised they were probably going to die (pictured: An illustration of the location of the 39 bodies)
The migrants used a pole to scrape holes in the side of the container as they desperately sought air, or escape (pictured)
Inside the lorry trailer driven by Maurice Robinson where 39 Vietnamese migrants suffocated after being smuggled into UK
'So sorry Mum,' is how 26-year-old Pham Thi Tram My, who wanted to work in the beauty industry in the UK, began the text message to her mother shortly before she lost consciousness.
RELATED ARTICLES [# Previous] [# 1] [# Next] [/news/article-9073729/Britains-supermarket-shelves-Frances-Covid-ban-British-truckers.html Boris blusters his way through pointless press conference...] [/news/article-9076499/How-people-smuggling-gang-repeatedly-slipped-net-deaths-39-Vietnamese-migrants.html Missed chances to stop Essex lorry horror: How people...] [/news/article-9075541/Lorry-driver-mechanic-guilty-manslaughter-39-Vietnamese-migrants.html Last moments of migrants in Essex lorry horror: Chilling...]

Share

'My route to abroad does not succeed.

Mum, I love you so much. 'It's Tuan,' he said.

'I am sorry. I cannot take care of you. I am sorry. I am sorry. I cannot breathe. I want to come back to my family. 'Give them air quickly but don't let them out,' he instructed Robinson, via text message.
When Robinson opened the trailer it was too late.
The gamble had failed. Bodies were piled up inside. Among the dead were three children and eight women.
Hughes, ostensibly the director of a haulage firm just over the border in southern Ireland, was making up to £1million a month trafficking migrants.
'The operation essentially became a bus service for migrants,' one lorry driver told us.

'There was a joke going round that you needed a bus licence, not an HGV licence, to work for Ronan Hughes.'
Hughes and Robinson had already pleaded guilty to manslaughter before the Old Bailey trial which ended in the conviction of four others yesterday, two for manslaughter and two for being part of a wider people-smuggling conspiracy.
The disaster exposed a back door into the country.
Belgium's ports, according to the National Crime Agency's annual strategic report last year, are now a 'greater focus for [https://deepstore.ru/bitrix/rk.php?goto=https://gatecold61.wordpress.com/2021/01/26/how-to-employ-a-message-sequence-to-build-up-your-sales/ https://deepstore.ru/bitrix/rk.php?goto=https://gatecold61.wordpress.com/2021/01/26/how-to-employ-a-message-sequence-to-build-up-your-sales/] the activities of organised people smugglers', a consequence of security being stepped up in France, with Zeebrugge identified as a key embarkation point.

Facebook said it had found links between cyberattacks previously attributed to OceanLotus and a Vietnamese company called CyberOne Group, which lists an address on a sidestreet in a commercial district of Ho Chi Minh city.

CyberOne Group denied being connected to the hackers.

"We are NOT Ocean Lotus," a person operating the company's now-suspended Facebook page said when contacted by Reuters.

"It's a mistake."
The ministry has previously denied connections to OceanLotus attacks.

Facebook said the hackers had used its platforms to carry out a range of cyberattacks, some of which employed fake accounts to trick targets by posing as activists, businesses and possible love interests.

Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook's head of cybersecurity policy, said his team had found technical evidence that linked CyberOne's Facebook page to accounts used in the hacking campaign, as well as to other OceanLotus attacks.

He declined to detail the exact evidence, saying to do so would make the group more difficult to track in the future.

But he said it included online infrastructure, malicious code, and other hacking tools and techniques.

"The actors in this space use some very defined techniques and if we are too public about how we observe those, it really does harm our ability to catch more of this," Gleicher said.

MOVIE THEATRE AND YOGA

Although OceanLotus has not gained the level of notoriety in the West as some suspected Chinese and Russian state-backed hacking operations, it has been prolific in southeast Asia.

Ben Read, a senior manager at U.S.

cybersecurity firm FireEye, and Marc-Étienne Léveillé, a researcher at Slovakian software security group ESET, said the hacking activity uncovered by Facebook matched operations attributed to OceanLotus.

Read said OceanLotus had been active since at least 2013 and had "all the hallmarks of a substantial state-backed organisation acting in support of Vietnamese government".

Facebook said it did not have sufficient evidence to attribute OceanLotus beyond CyberOne Group, which it said has also used the names CyberOne Security, CyberOne Technologies, Hành Tinh Company Limited, Planet and Diacauso.

CyberOne reveals little information about itself on its website, saying only that it has around 200 employees providing a range of "essential security technologies".

A careers page that was removed shortly after Reuters contacted the company advertised positions for people with hacking skills and experience in malware analysis.

Recruiters boasted of a generous benefits package, including free meals, a mini movie theatre and after-work yoga.

In Vietnam, Facebook is navigating a standoff with government officials who have threatened to ban it if it does not agree to censorship demands.
Reuters reported in April that Facebook had complied with a government request to increase its censorship of "anti-state" posts after its servers in Vietnam were taken offline, slowing traffic there to a crawl. There are several things that every club, and all events, seem to have in common and those things are:

1)activities are especially for singles and

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

2)all events are exclusively for Events and Adventures members or a guest of the member.

3) All activities are reflective of thoughtful planning, good taste and usually memorable local happenings when possible.

The month of February 2011 definitely fits this statement. Members of the Seattle club have an opportunity to take a trip down the Skagit River. This particular Seattle event is truly an iconic happening and Events and Adventures invites its members to attend an up-close and personal happening starring America's Bald Eagle in their natural habitat. Back from the edge of near extinction, beautiful bald EAGLES are flocking to the Skagit River to feast on the salmon runs, Events and Adventures plans to be on hand with members who want to witness these magnificent creatures first hand. The Skagit River Bald Eagle Nature Preserve is host to the largest population of bald eagles in the continental United States and this event is not to be missed. Or you can venture to one of Washington's best places to ski: Whitepass.

Spend the day swooshing down the slopes, frolic in the snow, or sit in the lodge, sip cocoa, and people watch whatever your particular desire may be you will have lots of singles to keep you company for this day long adventure. Else, you may wish to visit the largest building in the world as you tour Boeing Factory in Everett, Washington. There are several Tastes of the World events are planned for 'Foodies' so plan to fall in love with new Chinese, Brazilian and Vietnamese cuisine. He said the second dose amplifies the protection and will extend the life of immunity.

After you receive the second shot, your body needs time to build the protection needed to fight the virus. It could take up to two weeks for [/health/no-not-everyone-will-get-the-same-covid-19-vaccine-what-to-know/ your COVID-19 vaccine] to begin protecting you against the coronavirus, [ according to the CDC]. During that time, it's important to keep yourself and those around you safe by continuing to socially distance and wear a mask when around people outside your household.

You may not get full protection from the coronavirus right away.

Sarah Tew/CNET
You could still spread COVID-19, even after getting vaccinated
Because the coronavirus and COVID-19 vaccine are both so new, there's not enough evidence at this point to know if people can still carry the coronavirus pathogens and pass them along to others without being infected themselves.

"This gives enough time for the virus to grow in the respiratory passages and spread the infection to others, all while the body is fighting its own infection, aided by the vaccine," Gonsenhauser told CNET.

There's a lack of data that shows whether or not a vaccinated individual can [ spread the virus after becoming infected], and a person could potentially be an [/health/can-you-spread-coronavirus-even-if-you-dont-have-symptoms/ asymptomatic carrier], he added.

"While the vaccine is highly effective, there's still a slim chance -- 5 to 10% -- that after someone gets vaccinated, they could become infected," Gonsenhauser said. However, more data could become available as scientists and doctors learn more about the effects of the vaccine on COVID-19.

Read more: [/health/covid-19-reinfection-can-you-get-the-coronavirus-more-than-once-what-we-know-so-far/ COVID-19 reinfection: Can you get the coronavirus more than once? What we know so far]

Until experts fully understand the protection a COVID-19 vaccine provides, it's important to continue wearing a mask and following social distancing protocols, [ the CDC says]. This can help prevent the coronavirus spread among communities of people until more of the population is vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Wearing a mask is "adding on the protection of the vaccination," Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, [ said Dec. 14 on a CBS radio affiliate]. You can get infected twice and be asymptomatic the second time around, and still carry it and transmit it to other more vulnerable people around you," [ said John V. Williams], professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh.

So far, there have been very few cases of [/health/covid-19-reinfection-can-you-get-the-coronavirus-more-than-once-what-we-know-so-far/ reinfection of the coronavirus]. In fact, reported cases of reinfection with COVID-19 remain rare, [ according to the CDC]. However, if COVID-19 is like other types of coronaviruses, such as the common cold, reinfection will become more prevalent as time goes on, [ according to Scientific American].

Reinfection of COVID-19 is a possibility.

Sarah Tew/CNET
Unvaccinated people might think it's okay to stop wearing a mask
It's going to take months or [http://dizlab.ru/bitrix/redirect.php?event1=&event2=&event3=&goto=https://shipfat1.mystrikingly.com/blog/transforming-profits-force-producing-specific-expectations http://dizlab.ru/bitrix/redirect.php?event1=&event2=&event3=&goto=https://shipfat1.mystrikingly.com/blog/transforming-profits-force-producing-specific-expectations] longer for enough of the population to be vaccinated to start seeing case numbers go down substantially. Therefore, it's important to continue wearing masks whenever you're around people outside your household.

"If after getting vaccinated, people stop wearing their masks, other people who haven't been vaccinated could start thinking masks aren't necessary anymore," Gonsenhauser said of social behavior. Thirty two percent of respondents said they don't wear a mask when attending a sit-down gathering.

"Masks are a key measure to suppress transmission and save lives," [ the World Health Organization says]. If 95% of the public wears a mask, tens of thousands of lives could be saved, [ according to a Nature Medicine study] from October.
If many Americans refuse the vaccine, wearing a mask can help you protect yourself
Despite the [/news/covid-19-vaccines-are-safe-even-if-long-term-data-is-lacking/ COVID-19 vaccines being proven safe], some Americans may avoid vaccination. Incorrect [/health/microchips-and-mandatory-shots-dont-fall-for-these-coronavirus-vaccine-myths/ coronavirus vaccine myths] and other misinformation have falsely claimed that the vaccine will include government-tracking microchips or be forcefully administered by the military. This is not true.

Some may be wrongly concerned that the vaccine was developed too quickly to be safe. Both vaccines in the US have [/news/covid-19-vaccines-are-safe-even-if-long-term-data-is-lacking/ undergone extensive clinical trials] and have been proven to be 94% and 95% effective, well over the 90% efficacy threshold required.

While a vaccine won't completely stop the pandemic in its tracks, it's the direct route to [/health/herd-immunity-what-it-is-and-how-it-can-slow-the-spread-of-coronavirus/ herd immunity]. However, in order to get there, more people will need to get the coronavirus vaccine. And, due to a limited number of doses, not everyone is able to get the coronavirus vaccine all at once. In fact, [ depending on which group you're in], you may be waiting until at least April to get the vaccine, [ according to Dr. Anthony Fauci], the top US infectious disease expert -- if not later.

If a significant portion of the population refuses to take the vaccine, we will likely not see numbers of new cases decrease as rapidly as we'd like, says Gonsenhauser. He says he and other medical providers are doing everything they can to remind people [/news/covid-19-vaccines-are-safe-even-if-long-term-data-is-lacking/ how safe the vaccine is] -- from bringing relatable and accessible information to communities who have different oppositions to distrust the vaccine, to help them make better-informed decisions.

Some people may think it's okay not to wear a mask after getting COVID-19.

Sarah Tew/CNET
How much longer will I have to wear a mask and social distance? What needs to happen?
Currently, there's not enough information at this time to determine if or when the majority of the population can safely stop wearing masks and avoid close contact with others to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, [ the CDC says], but it will likely come down to the numbers.

When there are enough [ observable changes], such as cases dropping and the threat levels of community spread sharply falling. When that happens, medical experts can redetermine the need for mask-wearing. However, it could be well into 2021 before that happens.

"We would need to see a dramatic decrease in the number of new cases per 100,000 of the population after enough vaccines have been administered," Gonsenhauser said.

For more information, here are the [/health/covid-19-vaccine-side-effects-what-we-know-so-far/ COVID-19 vaccine side effects and what we know so far], and [/personal-finance/the-covid-19-vaccine-is-free-so-how-could-you-still-get-charged/ hidden medical charges you could encounter after getting the vaccine].
